A Death during Sleep Study due to Inattentive Researchers

Brandon Harris’ uncle, John Lewis, said the hospital allowed him to watch video footage taken while his nephew was at the sleep center. Lewis said he watched his nephew wave at least seven times to those working in the sleep center, trying to alert them that he needed help.

It aims at the reading level of a 13-year-old, yet does not talk down to adults.

It uses many true real-life stories about people. “People are interested in people.”

These stories are told in a dramatic way, usually with a key element of the person’s story as a lead-in.why does its writing style communicate so well?

Stories use plenty of quoted speech: “He said… She called back…” etc.

It addresses practical problems and worries, and offers ideas to help readers improve their quality of life. In other words, it addresses felt needs which is a key strategy in evangelism.

Humor is mixed with serious articles.

The site is operated by a group calling themselves Les Liens Invisibles, an “imaginary art group from Italy.” Media artists Clemente Pestelli and Gionatan Quintini’s other projects include Flickr Flickr parody Subvertr and Google Maps Google Maps parody Google is not the map.

Seppukoo is an intense jab at corporate interest in social media, but perhaps all the more powerful for it. What do you think of the site: playful and fun, or going too far? Would you consider virtually ending it all with a Seppukoo memorial?

Need some new stuff to worry about? In a word – NATURE. The animal kingdom is, apparently, jealous of our stuff:

Humboldt squid are man-handling (squid-handling??) divers, squirrels are jumping into camera-shots, Bald Eagles are bombing car windshields with dead fish, and grizzlies are swimming in our pools!

the greedy grizzly decided to unwind by taking the plunge in a back garden pool.

I do love the way the Sun called the bear ‘greedy’.. that’s something to worry about down the line ;)

Crystal Ball Starts Fire at Oklahoma Home

This is something I’ve never, ever worried about.. until now. Shawnee Fire Prevention Officer Jimmy Gibson has testified that the cause of a recent house fire was a large crystal ball.

He said the ball worked like a magnifying glass in sunlight, directing light into a heat beam.

Even if the ball was placed on a flat, nonflammable surface, the heat from sunlight could ignite a blaze on a rug or other items, Gibson said, so homeowners should be careful where they place such items.

So a suspected human decaying finger with an acrylic french-manicured nail found on the back deck of a Brielle resident’s home is not human:

“Brielle police were called July 30 after a homeowner made the discovery. Officials suspected it may have been dropped by a bird.”

It’s weird, mainly because they don’t know wtf it is.. see fark for more.

And if that isn’t enough, the severed foot in NY recycling plant was a decomposing bear paw..

#13 – ANT MEGA-COLONY Has TAKEN OVER Most of the WORLD!

An ant colony that could “rival humans in the scale of its world domination” sounds unlikely at best, but it’s gone and happened. According to BBC Earth News, not only does this ant mega-colony already exist, it’s we humans who made it happen!

“…whenever ants from the main European and Californian super-colonies and those from the largest colony in Japan came into contact, they acted as if they were old friends.
“These ants rubbed antennae with one another and never became aggressive or tried to avoid one another.
“In short, they acted as if they all belonged to the same colony, despite living on different continents separated by vast oceans. “

#12 – All the Famous People DIE!

I’d never worried about this stuff before, but consider how many famous people are dying! Like a friend of mine, Ray Carney once said, “..last time they wanted a war Michael Jackson waved a baby out the window on video and they showed it for three months. What’s happening now that they’re not showing us because Michael Jackson’s dead?” I’m not saying he’s right, I’m just saying what if it’s something else entirely, like Swine Flu meets Final Destination and all the famous people die off? What would we do for entertainment?

(well, I’d finish Against the Day, for starters, then move on to other books)
